TBT — TEST BEFORE TRADE
Data Source and Limitations
Effective and last updated: 3 August 2026
TBT is a backtesting calculation service, not a raw market-data vendor. NSE and NFO instrument references, option-chain metadata and historical candles are obtained through Alice Blue after the user authorizes a broker connection.
1. Current data source
Instrument search uses Alice Blue contract masters. Historical OHLCV candles and current-expiry option metadata are requested from Alice Blue for the selection made by the user. TBT is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Alice Blue or NSE.
2. Temporary processing
The application requests the selected historical range when a backtest starts and processes the response in server memory. Raw candles are not displayed in the browser, intentionally saved to a permanent candle database or provided as a downloadable data product. The browser receives aggregate metrics and the equity curve only.
3. Coverage and request limits
Alice Blue currently supplies one-minute and daily historical resolutions; TBT derives supported larger intraday intervals from one-minute candles. Alice Blue documents approximately two years of NSE history and current-expiry NFO history. On weekdays its historical API is normally available from 5:30 PM to 8:00 AM IST and unavailable during market hours; weekends and holidays have full-day availability.
4. Data may change
Upstream providers may correct, adjust, remove or restate data. Results generated at different times may therefore differ. API formats, authentication requirements, rate limits and supported intervals can also change without notice.
5. Corporate actions and adjustments
Prices and volumes may or may not be adjusted consistently for stock splits, bonuses, dividends, mergers, symbol changes and other corporate actions. Users should verify how an event is represented before relying on a long-range result.
6. Missing and irregular candles
There may be missing bars, zero-volume bars, exchange holidays, trading halts, illiquid periods or inconsistent timestamps. TBT does not create artificial candles to fill every gap. Strategy calculations use the data received and normalized by the application.
7. Time and timezone
Candle timestamps are supplied by the upstream API and may include a timezone offset. Users should verify session boundaries, especially for intraday strategies, daylight-saving conversions outside India, and rules that depend on a precise market time.
8. Instrument-universe bias
Searching the current instrument master may exclude securities that were delisted, merged or renamed. Testing only instruments that exist today can create survivorship bias and overstate historical performance.
9. Calculations are TBT outputs
Aggregate metrics, equity curves and summaries are calculated by TBT from the received candles and selected assumptions. Individual trade prices are not included in the public results. These outputs are not official exchange statements or broker contract notes.
10. Report a data issue
Send the instrument, timeframe, date range, expected value, observed value and a screenshot to patriotsind@gmail.com. Do not include broker credentials or OTPs.
